Morita Tatsuko New Year Couplets Design

I aimed to transform traditional spring couplets into an everyday decor item that would remain visually appealing on a wall even after the New Year. Thus, I designed wordless couplets, conveying meaning solely through imagery, creating a quiet and elegant aesthetic. Three auspicious themes were created: 'Smooth Advancement' (平步青雲) for career success, 'Blooming Prosperity' (花開富貴) for an abundant life, and 'Everlasting Brightness' (日月長明) for health and longevity. Crafted using Japanese Takeo Satogami paper, the designs feature three distinct vermilion hues, paired with gold, pink, and white foils. Debossing and die-cut techniques were applied to create a departure from traditional spring couplets.
