Lin Yu-Shan Donated Artworks: Exhibition Visuals

Lin Yu-Shan (1907-2004) was a celebrated Taiwanese painter, born in Chiayi. He received extensive training in both traditional Chinese and Japanese painting techniques, including studies at Tokyo's Kawabata Art School and Kyoto's Domoto Insho Studio, specializing in Song dynasty bird-and-flower painting. Throughout the Japanese colonial period, he was consistently selected for major official exhibitions, earning top honors. His 1930 work, 'Lotus Pond,' was designated a National Treasure in 2015. It was an honor to design the visual identity for this significant special exhibition of his donated artworks. The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts requested a modern aesthetic, distinct from traditional art exhibition sensibilities. I found Master Lin Yu-Shan's paintings to possess a timeless elegance, not an antiquated feel. My design integrates key elements from the featured artworks into the typography, allowing various bird-and-flower motifs to coexist harmoniously on the layout, inviting viewers to appreciate the intricate details across multiple pieces. The color palette of green, gold, and black conveys a refined, understated yet distinguished sophistication.
